Popcaan is one of the hottest acts out of Jamaica right now and he’s leading the new school/younger generation of Dancehall artists. He has countless international Dancehall hits ranging from of from “Clarks” to “Raving”. What do you expect from a artist that was groomed by his Dancehall Hero daddi, Vybz Kartel.
In the past Dancehall artists have always tried to jump on the hottest Hip Hop song at the time to create a buzz. This approach works most of the time but it always back fires because the Dancehall artist never got any mechanical royalties because he or she never got the rights from the copy right owner to use the song. Example, Vybz Kartel’s “Ramping Shop” which was Neyo’s “Miss Independent” record. Now fast forward to 2012, It seems like Popcaan is starting his own trend by creating Hot Tunes and having Hip Hop artists jump on it to step their Hype Up. Yaooow!!!. Check out Lumidee, most commonly know for her hit single “Never Leave” aka “Uh Oh” on the Diwali Riddim, which was also on a Top Dancehall Riddim at the time.
